Over the last week, we as a management team have had to come together and make some tough decisions regarding squad selection, letting players go, and bringing in new faces to align with our plans moving forward. With that being said, today’s result really reflected what we are doing here at Dunkirk FC.
From minute 1 to minute 90 we controlled the game comfortably. That’s no disrespect to the opposition as I thought they had some good individuals on the pitch but overall we were just too strong for them today and didn’t allow them to get into the flow of the game.
We made some changes, bringing Kieran and Beno straight in, who both had fantastic debuts. This caused the opposition's defence problems, so we shuffled the squad around slightly to fit our game plan.
A great header from Kieran got us started, and just before halftime, a well-taken finish from Darragh saw us go into the break 2-0 up.
The message was simple at half time, we don’t concede and we score more goals.
Second half saw us start strong and within 10 minutes Kieran made it 3-0 getting on the end of great through ball and finishing calmly past the keeper.
The opposition did have a spell and put us under pressure for 5 or so minutes in the second half but the lads managed through it and finished the game off with a very strong performance in tough weather conditions.
We had good squad depth today and all available subs were used, coming on continuing the high tempo we expected so a big well done to all players from the management team today!
It sets us up nicely now with the next few weeks of tough fixtures but the way we played today and the new faces we have added we showed that we are here to compete with anyone in this league.
Special mentions go to Beno who had a fantastic game up top today on his debut giving us some real energy and direct thinking. Reece sugars who was exceptional down the right hand side today. And finally Kieran wells who marked his return to Dunkirk FC with 2 great debut goals.
Up The Boatmen!
