A brilliant performance away to league high flyers to secure a well-deserved 3 points!

There’s been a few conversations over the last week or so in regards to our preparations and set up as a team and today we put those into action.

From the minute the lads stepped out to warm up to the end of the 90 minutes every single Dunkirk player showed great attitude, great intensity and proved exactly what we are capable of on the pitch.

The first half we started off in control winning individual battles across the pitch causing the opposition some early threats in the final third. A great delivery into the box saw max taylor rise high to head in the ball giving us a 1-0 lead. There’s opposition had a few spells out wide but our shape and work rate really gave us the advantage and gave Clipstone very minimal opportunities infront of goal with no real threat.

Going into the changing rooms at half time the job was only 50% done and a real positive high spirited team talk gave the lads that motivation to go and complete the job and bring home 3 points.

Second half started and we knew that the home team would come out second half and give us problems to get themselves back into the game. We really stud our ground and continued to work hard across the pitch again shutting down potential threats. It was a great second half of football both sides went at it and you could say that a bit of old school non league came into the game with tensions rising and a few hard tackles flying in however a great spell of possession saw George Harrison chip a wonderful ball into max taylor who slotted past the keeper for his second of the game.

The game did then start to get quite scrappy with a few yellow cards and red card for Kieran Wells with both dugouts going at it.

Clipstone then with 15 minutes to go managed to get a goal back with a fantastic strike from the edge of the box to make the final 15 minutes very interesting. Clipstone continued to put pressure on but some fantastic game management from our lads and real hard work saw us see the game out to come away with a fully deserved 3 points.

Man of the match today could have gone to a number of players but max taylor with 2 good finished earns the recognition for this today!

A really strong positive performance has proven to us all today what we are capable on the pitch and with the changes we have made and the standards we have bought into the team it really does feel like the start of a huge turnaround for Dunkirk FC!
