An end result that didn’t reflect the game

An end result that didn’t reflect the game

Club Admin21 Dec 2024 - 19:43

At half-time, we knew we had an uphill task on our hands as we knew the opposition would now park the bus and try to grind out the result so a good second-half performance would be needed with goals.

An end result that didn’t reflect the game but a result we have to accept as we didn’t take our chances today.

Coming off the back of a good performance last week we went into our final home game of 2024 in good spirits.

Early into the game you could see the pitch conditions were going to make it more difficult for both sides to play football. We started off sloppy in the first 10/15 minutes with no real energy around the pitch. We finally started getting into the game and the chances started to be created infront of the goal with their goalkeeper being tested a few times and pulling off some good saves.

The opposition then found themselves down to 10 men in the first half with a reckless high challenge in the centre of the pitch to see their centre midfielder receive his 2nd yellow of the game.

This was an opportunity for us to take full control of the game and punish a 10 man side but as things go in football it’s never that straight forward. A delivery into our box saw a deflection find an opposition player with an open net to head into to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just before half time.

At half time we knew we had an uphill task on our hands as we knew the opposition would now park the bus and try to grind out the result so a good second half performance would be needed with goals.

Again the first 10/15 minutes we started quite sloppy and didn’t look like we got out of 2nd gear however we brushed it off and finally got hold of the game dominating possession and using the extra man to our advantage.

We went close numerous times with chances being missed that we should have put in the back of the net and as time started to go on it got more and more frustrating.

Finally then in the 65th minute a long range effort from us saw their keeper fumble the ball for Daniel to follow up and the ball managed to roll over the line to equal the score.

With 25 minutes left to play we dominated in possession but credit where credit is due the opposition defended extremely well to prevent us from finding a winner.

After 90 minutes it felt more like 2 points dropped than 1 point earned. You have to take your chances in-front of goal and today we didn’t. On the positive though it’s another point on the board and unbeaten in 2 as we go into the final game of the year next Saturday away at Radford.

Man of the match today was Beno. He was fantastic for 90 minutes a real threat down the wide areas and gave us bags of energy none stop. Well done Beno.
